SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2023
Our First Meaningful Steps Towards
A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
We’ve always envisioned a leisurely oasis that’s designed to work with nature and people, but recent years have pushed us to embark further towards a new journey of growth and expansion. Emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic in our initial year of operations, we have since trained our sights on the future through the lenses of sustainability. This report aims to communicate the material topics of our ESG Framework and provide a comprehensive view of our blueprint in striving for eco-friendly operations. By working with our partners and stakeholders, we hope to leverage hospitality as a driver for sustainability and meaningful change that uplifts our people and the community where we belong.

GREEN PURCHASING
Our dedication to sustainability and social responsibility is woven into the fabric of our operations. From our inception, we have prioritized purchasing goods and services from local, eco-friendly, and fair trade suppliers, ensuring that our practices reflect our values. This commitment enhances the guest experience and contributes to the well-being of our community and environment.
Supporting local suppliers is a cornerstone of our approach. By sourcing goods and services from nearby businesses, farmers and artisans, we uplift the local economy and reduce transport emissions. Fresh produce from local farms grace our dining tables, guaranteeing quality and sustainability. Additionally, our gift shop features handmade crafts and souvenirs from local artisans, offering guests an authentic taste of the region’s culture.

Nourishing, Life-giving, Sustainable
Food and Beverage Offerings
Our culinary team crafts delicious and nutritious meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that every guest can enjoy a satisfying dining experience that aligns with their needs and principles. We provide specialized options for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, dairy-free, and other special dietary needs. We also participate in initiatives like Meatless Mondays to help curb meat consumption while highlighting the natural flavors of fresh ingredients.
Our commitment to sustainability also extends to our seafood offerings. We ensure that all the seafood we serve is sourced responsibly, supporting sustainable fishing that helps preserve marine ecosystems. Additionally, we collaborate with our suppliers to explore alternative protein sources and expand our range of plant-based ingredients, continuously enhancing our menu with innovative and diverse offerings.
Greener ways of getting around
In our first years in operation, we implemented ways to minimize transportation requirements in our business and promote eco-friendly alternatives. One key strategy involves prioritizing local sourcing of goods and materials and consolidating deliveries. By reducing the need for long-distance transportation, we not only support local economies but also significantly lower carbon emissions associated with logistics.
We continue to provide eco-friendly services that we’ve started since opening day: shuttle services powered by electric or hybrid vehicles within our resort premises and our biking project which actively encourages guests to explore the stunning surroundings of Coron more intimately through bicycles and in partnership with local sustainable transport providers.
Electric Vehicle Integration
Our modest fleet of EVs supports various on-site transportation needs inside the property, including guest shuttle services, staff transport, and maintenance operations. Equipped with advanced battery technology, these vehicles operate efficiently and silently while producing zero tailpipe emissions.
To support our EV fleet, we have installed dedicated charging stations equipped with fast charging capabilities throughout the resort. These stations not only cater to our operational needs but also provide convenience for guests with electric vehicles.
CLIMATE ADAPTATION
Climate adaptation is a critical aspect of our business model due to the increasingly urgent impacts of climate change on global and local environments. Globally, climate change is causing disruptions across various sectors, including agriculture, water resources, infrastructure, and biodiversity. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), global temperatures have risen approximately 1.1°C above pre-industrial levels, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves, storms, and sea-level rise.
In the Philippines, these changes are particularly pronounced. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that temperatures in the country have risen, leading to more extreme weather events such as typhoons and heavy rainfall. This trend exacerbates existing challenges like water scarcity and agricultural disruptions, which directly impact businesses reliant on stable environmental conditions.
At TAG Resort Coron, we have implemented several strategies that are designed to proactively address the challenges posed by climate change while ensuring the long-term viability of our operations and the surrounding ecosystem.
TAG Resort Coron’s commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in respect for the natural world. Despite the challenges of COVID-19 when the resort first opened in 2021, TAG Resort’s sustainability efforts have been consistent and haven’t faltered. The resort is committed to keep pushing the envelope for sustainability’s sake, now more than ever.
“In our initial years, we have implemented numerous sustainable initiatives that reflect our dedication to the cause. We are proud of the strides we have made in reducing our environmental impact, fostering a culture of sustainability among our staff, and engaging our guests in our green practices,” shares Stephen Tagud, Managing Director of TAG Resort Coron.
Two years into its operation, TAG Resort Coron has already saved 8, 202.92 cubic meters of water from recycling wastewater, laundry, and operations, and has extracted 51,115 kwh from renewable energy. It also uses 100% in-room water bottles instead of single-use plastic bottles. These sustainability efforts are aligned with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.
TAG Resort continues to adhere to these global standards, and you can read more about them in its Sustainability Report for 2023 here.
